Nova Scotia Immigration Update for 2025
Nova Scotia’s immigration programs are adapting to meet high demand and labor market needs in 2025. The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) and Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) have introduced key updates to prioritize local workers and critical sectors, reflecting the province’s commitment to economic growth and population retention.
Due to an influx of applications, NSNP is focusing on individuals already living and working in Nova Scotia with work permits expiring in 2025, particularly in healthcare, social assistance, and construction. International applicants in non-priority sectors face limited processing, except for select AIP roles in trucking, clean energy, and technology. The Accommodation and Food Services sector has paused new applications since April 2024 to clear backlogs.
Starting May 1, 2025, the AIP endorsement process will transition to the Labour Market Priorities Stream System (LaMPSS), a mobile-friendly, streamlined platform designed to reduce errors and enhance efficiency for employers. This upgrade supports Nova Scotia’s goal of attracting and retaining skilled workers in high-demand fields like IT, trades, and healthcare.
Looking ahead, 2026 priorities will focus on healthcare and construction workers with expiring permits, pending federal allocation details. Employers and applicants should verify designations and prepare for LaMPSS access to stay competitive.
Nova Scotia’s immigration pathways remain a beacon for skilled workers, offering opportunities to build a future in a welcoming province with a 70% retention rate. Stay informed and act early to navigate these changes successfully
