Francophone Immigration - Target Inceased to 12%

Canada to Boost Francophone Immigration to 12% by 2029

On June 2, 2025, Canada’s Immigration Minister announced a plan to increase Francophone immigration to 12% of the country’s total immigration by 2029. This ambitious target aims to strengthen French-speaking communities outside Quebec, supporting linguistic diversity and cultural vitality.

The initiative responds to the need to bolster Francophone populations in regions where French is a minority language. By prioritizing French-speaking newcomers, the government seeks to enhance access to French-language services, education, and cultural programs. The plan builds on existing programs like the Francophone Mobility Program, streamlining pathways for skilled workers, students, and professionals fluent in French.

This move aligns with Canada’s broader immigration goals, balancing economic growth with cultural preservation. By 2029, the policy is expected to bring thousands more Francophone immigrants annually, enriching communities and fostering bilingualism nationwide.
